Japanese hardware sales, Jan. 23 - March 1: Threesome edition

Wow. Hey, whoa. If you thought last week's charts were explosive, brace yourself for some startling developments -- the DSi, which has ruled the roost since its introduction last October, was finally pushed from the top slot by the tremendous girth of the PlayStation 3, made temporarily even girthier by the release of Yakuza 3. The Japanese game consuming populous had a 3-centric week, it seems. That's what we meant, in the headline. What did you think we meant? What's that? Oh, no. That's just gross.

This week brought other radical power shifts in the Kingdom of Hardware Salestopia -- the temporary, Star Ocean-scented wind in the sails (or rather, the sales, amirite?) of the Xbox 360 quickly dissipated, returning it to its furnished summer home in 3rd place. Meanwhile, the PSP got a minor booster shot from Dr. Dynasty Warriors: Multi Raid. However, the undeniable big winner of the week was the PS3 -- you can get your first look at what all the fuss is about when Yakuza 3 launches in the U.S. in Q4 of two-thousand and never.

- PS3: 36,513 20,364 (126.10%)
- DSi: 35,827 6,012 (14.37%)
- PSP: 35,588 6,036 (20.43%)
- Wii: 17,876 903 (5.32%)
- Xbox 360: 11,795 13,539 (53.44%)
- DS Lite: 11,774 1,799 (18.04%)
- PS2: 5,099 70 (1.39%)
