Japanese hardware sales, March 2 - March 8: Brightly Colored Evil edition

We've suspected for quite some time now that the Japanese game-consuming populous is easily hypnotized by jewel-toned and otherwise flashy colors, evidenced by the success of the Pokémon series and the kaleidoscopic spectrum of DS Lites. If you're not convinced, look at this week's charts -- PSP sales shot through the roof, aided by the recently released, astonishingly garish Vibrant Blue and Radiant Red models. We expect the next few weeks to be fairly kind to Sony's handheld as more PSP color variants hit the market. Personally, we're holding out for Pulchritudinous Purple.

Japanese gamers also proved their undying undead love by pushing Resident Evil 5 to the top of the software sales chart, bolstering its respective platforms by a little over 3,000 a piece. If only Capcom could synergize the two aforementioned passions exhibited in this week's sales figures -- perhaps an additional DLC pack could add some much-needed vibrance to RE5's humble palette.
